Ag in Motion Brings Together Employees, Growers and Ag Experts

Every July, farmers, industry leaders and agriculture experts gather at Ag in Motion - the largest outdoor farm expo in Western Canada. The event takes place in Langham, a 640-acre property northwest of Saskatoon, Sask. and features the latest advancements in agriculture technology and equipment.

The teams at Nutrien join more than 30,000 attendees from around the world to experience what all these groups have in common – a love of agriculture.

For our Nutrien teams, participating in an event of this magnitude takes a village. From providing insight into our proprietary products including Proven Seed, Loveland Products, Precision Ag, Nutrien HUB and Nutrien Financial, to touring the test plots, to connecting with customers in the evening, teams from across the company come together to make it happen.

One of the busiest stops at the show was the test crop plots, where Nutrien teams welcomed growers to see 66 different varieties of canola, corn, soybeans, cereals, flax and forages from Proven Seed up close, and discuss what growers are seeing in the field.

By the time growers step into the plots, they're seeing the result of months of work by a team committed to showcasing the best of what Nutrien has to offer. Long before attendees arrive in Langham, preparation to get the site ready is already underway. While experts from across North America make their way to Ag in Motion each year, the team preparing the plots call Saskatchewan home.

Led by Scott Anderson, Manager of Field Research, the Saskatoon-based crew spends months turning a section of prairie into one of the most visited stops at the show. Planning plot layouts, seeding trials, managing weeds and working around the weather are all part of the job.

“Through the efforts of our team, it always turns out fantastic. We've got great material for people to see what our product portfolio can do,” says Scott.

For Bruce Harrison, Senior Director of Breeding Innovation, Ag in Motion is about creating opportunities for employees to connect directly with growers and share the work happening behind the scenes.

“We know that we need to be successful with our varieties and hybrids that we're creating at the farm gate,” says Bruce. “This is a great opportunity where we can create a great backdrop for our product managers and our proprietary representatives to talk about the real innovation that we create at Nutrien Ag Solutions.”

In addition to the test plots, Ag in Motion also gives attendees the opportunity to experience the equipment first-hand and talk to someone face-to-face. With decisions being made in the field, it’s important to meet growers there.

“It's where we're comfortable, it's where we're passionate, and it's where our customers are comfortable and passionate,” said David Cranswick, Product Line Manager for Forages at Nutrien Ag Solutions. “And that’s something that we can immediately connect over, which makes this event so unique and a lot of fun.”

The event brings a big sense of pride for the Nutrien team, providing the perfect opportunity to show the value of the products and traits that the company is bringing to market to ultimately increase the grower’s yield.

“For me, looking forward to Ag in Motion is really being proud of our portfolio and being able to stand around and talk to growers and show them what we've got, show them the innovations that we're bringing in, the new varieties,” says Scott. “If we can make that grower successful, I mean, that's our whole job.”
