Borger Nitrogen gets new state-of-the-art control room

The team at Nutrien’s nitrogen site in Borger, Texas is giving glowing reviews about their brand-new operations control room. This central hub is where all technical data coming into or going out of the facility resides and is shared in real-time, 24/7 and 365 days a year.

The new control room and associated facilities replace older technology and working areas in a way that promotes sharing knowledge, data and new ideas across teams. This not only improves safety, reliability and efficiency of the plant, it makes for a more operator-friendly environment in day-to-day work.

“The control room is really the heart of our plant,” says JR Gray, Production Manager for Ammonia & Urea. “We saw the need for an improvement, and by working together, we made sure that no stone was left unturned in creating a great work environment for our team.”

Sights and sounds

An array of new LCD customizable touch screen panels make data more visible and accessible, while new furniture such as height-adjustable desks and ergonomic chairs improves comfort. “The design called for 12” concrete walls, combined with acoustic sound deadening technology to ensure that our people can work with minimal distraction, comfort and safety – even during the busiest and noisiest plant operations. Our new control room is now much more quiet and spacious, which makes for a big morale improvement,” says JR.

In addition, a new training simulator was built within the same facility, so operators can learn how the high-tech system works through hands-on experience.

Rounding out the list of improvements is a new conference room, permitting room, kitchen and locker rooms, making it a true one-stop shop.
