Nutrien Advancing Plans to Expand West Coast Capacity to Strengthen Canada’s Global Potash Leadership
Nutrien is taking a step toward meeting the world’s growing need for Canadian potash. With demand for crop nutrients expected to rise, we are positioning Canada to capture more of this opportunity and deliver lasting value to farmers, communities, and shareholders.
We have identified the Port of Longview, Washington as ourpreferred location for a potential new ocean terminal and are negotiating terms for long-term tenancy. We will advance engineering, planning, and permitting activities as part of a thorough process towards a final investment decision.
What the Proposed Project Would Deliver
The proposed facility would create additional deep-water access in the Pacific Northwest, designed to move millions of tonnes of Canadian potash efficiently to global markets. This additional terminal capacity is expected to:
- Enhance supply chain reliability and resiliency for customers worldwide.
- Complement Nutrien’s existing export infrastructure, which includes the Port of Saint John (Saint John, New Brunswick) and a significant stake in Neptune Terminal (Vancouver, British Columbia).
- Support Canada’s leadership in global potash supply by enabling greater volumes to meet rising demand.

Why Longview
The Port of Longview is the preferred location as it meets multiple criteria for location, logistics and capacity.
The design criteria included:
- Skilled labor availability
- Inbound & outbound logistics including rail connectivity
- Economics and access to customers and markets
- A collaborative partner for the proposed project.

What is Potash
Potash is the common name given to a group of minerals containing potassium (K) and is essential to all forms of plant and animal life.
Nutrien is the world's largest soft rock miner and potash producer, with six low-cost mines in Saskatchewan. With decades of high-quality reserves and completed expansions, we’re positioned to meet the world’s long-term potash needs.
