Beyond the Game: Finding Future Leaders Through Sports

Across Western Canada, Nutrien’s presence at major sporting events reflects our deep connection to the communities where we live and work. These partnerships allow us to engage with a wide audience—athletes, families, fans, and future leaders—through shared values and a passion for teamwork.

Through these collaborations, we highlight the many career paths Nutrien offers across trades, agriculture, engineering, science, business, and more. Sports provide a natural link to qualities like resilience, leadership, and collaboration—all essential traits in the workplace. By showing how these strengths translate from the field to fulfilling careers, we help spark interest and connection among individuals who align with our culture and purpose.

Lori Free, VP of Talent Acquisition & Culture, shares,

“Our sports partnerships give us an incredible opportunity to reach their passionate fans, which include our farmer customers and talented people that may be a great fit for key roles we’re hiring in trades, agriculture, engineering, manufacturing, business functions and science. We’re excited to showcase that Nutrien is where your work has purpose.”

Hear from interns who joined us through these partnerships about why they chose Nutrien and how their futures are growing here.

“My experience at Nutrien Ag Solutions has been very valuable to me and my personal development. It has allowed me to learn more about the crop input business, all while working within a company that fosters community, teamwork, and respect. As a university athlete, these are values that we are taught from a young age. As I move into the workforce, it is very comforting that I have found a company that holds these core values very closely.” –Aaron Elser, Retail Field Intern – Agronomy Assistant

"During my first two years as a summer intern, my favorite aspect of working for Nutrien Ag Solutions has been the learning opportunities presented from an operations standpoint: fertilizer and chemical deliveries to farms, blending fertilizer and grass seed blends, loading and unloading bulk seed (both treated and untreated), as well as learning how to do everything with a safety-first mindset. Also, with the agronomy aspect: soil sampling, crop staging, and weed identification, as well as learning from our CPAs, Declan and Abby. I'm excited to continue my learning with Nutrien Ag Solutions in a safe and exciting way, and to continue developing relationships with local farmers and great co-workers." – Sam Callahan, Retail Field Intern – Agronomy Assistant

These collaborations continue to expand our reach and strengthen our diverse talent pipeline across the organization.
