Nutrien supports the Blucher Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department with new Wildland Fire Truck

On a bright spring afternoon, community members, local officials and Nutrien employees gathered at the Blucher Aberdeen Emergency Services Building for a key turning ceremony to celebrate the arrival of a new wildland fire truck – a major asset that will strengthen emergency response and preparedness across the rural communities surrounding Nutrien’s Patience Lake potash operation, as well as nearby Nutrien Retail locations. Made possible through Nutrien’s support, the new vehicle marks a shared investment in community safety.
“At Nutrien, we’re deeply committed to supporting the communities where we live and work,” says Rob King, General Manager, Patience Lake, Nutrien. “This new wildland fire truck represents our shared responsibility and continued partnership with the people who serve on the frontlines of community safety.”
The Blucher Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department (BAVFD) plays a crucial role in supporting the area’s emergency response, serving farms, businesses, and families in a largely rural landscape. With increasingly dry summers and unpredictable weather patterns, modern fire equipment helps ensure responders can act quickly and effectively.

“In the spring, and when there are dry summers like we have seen, grass fires are very common and dangerous,” says Fire Chief Mike Steckhan. “This wildlands fire truck has off-road capabilities specifically designed to attack those fires using nozzles installed on the front bumper and mounted sprayers on both sides. Thanks to Nutrien's significant donation, it is a reality for our department to have this enhanced service for our community. Thank you!"
This partnership with BAVFD reflects Nutrien’s broader Community Relations & Investment strategy, which prioritizes support in four core areas: Sustainable Agriculture, Environmental Stewardship, Resilient Communities and Industry Workforce— making it a natural fit. It reflects Nutrien’s commitment to being a good neighbour and a trusted local partner.

“Nutrien is proud to support initiatives that build resilient, strong and safe communities,” says Renee Glushyk, Senior Manager, Community Relations & Investment, Nutrien. “Whether it’s growing community resources or supporting volunteer-led programs, our goal is to work together in ways that make a meaningful difference.”
This collaboration with BAVFD shows Nutrien’s belief that when we invest in the safety and strength of our communities, we all benefit. As the community grows and evolves, Nutrien remains committed to walking alongside it — one investment, and one key turn, at a time.
