Trinidad-Based Model Farm has Educated Local Growers for 10 years

Still going strong after a decade, Nutrien’s Model Farm and Agricultural Resource Centre in Trinidad continues to help local farmers and students improve their skills as food producers and farm business owners.

The state-of-the-art training facility was officially launched in 2009. The purpose was to create awareness and expose the Trinidad farming community and the public to the use of new farming techniques and crop nutrients so that they can contribute to improving food sustainability.  

The 75-acre facility offers free training to farmers, as well as ongoing access to experts and established best practices for sustainable crop production and profitable farm enterprises. 

The Model Farm also features a collection of endangered tropical fruit trees for educational purposes and possible planting material for future generations. Additionally, the farm provides free, weekly agricultural training to the public and field trips for students. Our continued partnerships with local schools support the establishment of grow boxes and educate youth on the importance of sustainable agriculture.

In 2018, the Model Farm harvested over 75,000 pounds of produce, hosted 1,885 training course participants and welcomed 480 visitors.
