Weeping Water adds another win to a 30-year safety streak
Nutrien’s Weeping Water facility in Nebraska continues to show an unwavering commitment to safety—recently earning “One of Nebraska’s Safest Companies” honors from the National Safety Council (NSC) for the thirtieth year in a row.
The milestone underscores the enduring safety culture fostered at the site, making it a source of pride for the Nutrien team. At this year’s NSC ceremony, Weeping Water received a distinction for its strong safety score, and was also recognized for its safety programs, policies and procedures that led to its excellent performance.
Attending the awards were Trevor Berg, SVP Potash Operations & Interim Head of Phosphate, and Mike Dirham, VP of Operations for Phosphate, who joined local team members to celebrate the site’s ongoing standard of excellence.
Collaboration and care
What’s behind the winning streak? According to Richard Leach, General Manager of Phosphate Feed Operations, it’s all about collaboration and care: “Our leaders truly lead by example, and safety is ingrained in our site culture. The whole team believes in our safety program. We get results because we follow up on every concern brought to our attention. People here look out for one another—it’s a family.”
Richard also emphasizes knowledge sharing: “Everyone is encouraged to contribute ideas to make our workplace safer—and that ongoing involvement strengthens our Culture of Care.”
Hats off to the Weeping Water team for this safety legacy—here’s to another 30 years of excellence.

About Weeping Water
The Weeping Water facility, located on the east side of its namesake town in Nebraska, was constructed in 1960 and purchased by one of Nutrien's legacy companies in 1995.
While most of Nutrien's production facilities make nutrients for plants, Weeping Water is all about animal feed. The site takes limestone and phosphoric acid and mills, mixes, dries and screens them to produce phosphate feed mineral supplements for the beef, pork and poultry industries as well as the pet industry. The Weeping Water facility is Safe Feed Safe Food certified.
The limestone at Weeping Water is taken from underground mines and processed into a fine powder, while the phosphoric acid is brought in by rail from Nutrien phosphate mines operating in North Carolina and Florida.
