Supporting Agricultural Solutions in Africa

Nutrien is proud to be a sponsor of the 4R Solution Project.

We are expanding our global impact through our sponsorship of the 4R Solution Project, a collaboration between government, industry, and industry associations to advance sustainable agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa.

We have pledged $500,000 to the project, which will help over 80,000 smallholder farmers in Ethiopia, Ghana, and Senegal. With an increased income, these farmers will be able to grow more nutritious and marketable crops, increase productivity and profit margins, and support improvements in the co-operative business structure.

By incorporating 4R Nutrient Stewardship (the Right Source of plant nutrients at the Right Rate, Right Time and Right Place) into fertilizer management practices, farmers in developing countries, many of whom are women, will be able to increase crop yields and profitability.

This initiative is especially important for women farmers, as they are constrained by limited and unreliable access to land, labor, financial services and training opportunities. They can use the increased profits to expand farming operations and increase access to education, health care and a more stable and nutritious food supply.

Both individual farmers and co-operatives will benefit socio-economically from the project, and Nutrien is proud to be supporting a solution that makes substantial progress in feeding the future by reducing hunger and poverty.
