Showcasing safety skills and teamwork at Nutrien’s Nitrogen & Phosphate Emergency Response Competition

Six emergency response teams from across Nutrien’s Nitrogen and Phosphate (N&P) operations in North America and Trinidad gathered last month in Mobile, Alabama for our annual N&P Emergency Response Competition.

The action-packed event saw fierce competition and showcased exceptional skills and teamwork with representatives from our Augusta, Aurora, Geismar, Lima, Trinidad, and White Springs facilities. The competition, which also serves as a training event, tests teams in a variety of industrial emergency response scenarios including live fire, medical care, confined space and high angle rescues.

“Thank you to our emergency response teams for their commitment to our safety vision to send everyone home safe, every day,” says Dean Perkins, Senior Vice President, Nitrogen Operations. “Your work is essential in helping to protect each other, our facilities and our communities. Congratulations to everyone who participated and thank you to the event organizers, judges and volunteers.”

The teams train year-round, often in a volunteer capacity, to ensure they are always prepared to respond effectively in the event of an emergency. Being part of an emergency response team gives employees an opportunity to learn and practice their safety skills and work closely alongside other dedicated individuals to help protect others.

“Emergency responders aren’t here for the fame and fortune,” says Jeremy Mollet, Director of Governance, Emergency, Analytics & Audit. “They make a deliberate, deep, value-based decision, sacrificing their time, health, wellness and safety to serve others. We appreciate their effort, and we also recognize the families and friends who support our responders in making this decision a reality.”

After the points were tallied over seven events, the Lima team earned the top honor with its outstanding performance and dedication to safety excellence.

Neil Goodwin, Safety Specialist and Lima’s team coach, adds, “I am incredibly proud of the Lima team for their dedication and effort during training and at the competition, which ultimately led to our victory. The competition provided a valuable opportunity for us to test our skills, collaborate and learn – not only from each other, but also from other emergency response experts.”

Congratulations to the Lima team and all event participants for their engagement and hard work ensuring safety in the workplace.
